Then I asked the Emperor to let twenty-four of his best horses and riders come and exercise on top of my handkerchief. His Majesty agreed and I took them up one by one. They divided into two sides and performed make-believe battles. The Emperor was so delighted that he ordered the entertainment to be repeated on several other days.
