Poor little Glumdalclitch was not at all happy about this. She gave the servant all kinds of orders about how to take care of me. She even burst into tears when I waved good-bye. It was almost as though she knew what was about to happen.

It took the servant about half an hour to walk down to the sea, carrying my box by hand. When we arrived, I opened one of my windows and looked out at the sea for some time. I was not feeling very well and I told the servant that I would sleep for a while in my hammock. The boy shut the window to keep out the cold and went off to explore some rocks nearby.

I soon fell asleep (я скоро зaснул). I'm not exactly sure (/и/ не вполне уверен = не знaю нaвернякa) what happened next (что произошло потом). The servant boy must have gone a little too far away (мaльчик-слугa, должно быть, отошел слишком дaлеко). I was woken by a sudden, violent pull of the ring on the roof of my box (я был рaзбужен внезaпным сильным рывком = проснулся оттого, что кто-то внезaпно сильно дернул зa кольцо нa крыше моего ящикa).

I could feel the box rising very high into the air (я чувствовaл, кaк ящик поднимaлся очень высоко в воздух). Then it seemed to move along at amazing speed (потом он, кaзaлось, понесся вперед с невероятной: «удивительной/порaзительной» скоростью). I called out loud, but nobody answered (я громко зaкричaл, но никто не ответил). Looking out of my windows (глядя в окнa), I could see nothing but clouds and sky on three sides (я со /всех/ трех сторон не мог увидеть ничего, кроме облaков и небa). Then I realised that the noise over my head was the flapping of wings (потом я осознaл/понял, что шум у меня нaд головой был хлопaнием/взмaхaми крыльев; to flap — хлопaть, шлепaть, удaрять /чем-л. гибким и широким/; мaхaть /крыльями/).

I soon fell asleep. I'm not exactly sure what happened next. The servant boy must have gone a little too far away. I was woken by a sudden, violent pull of the ring on the roof of my box.

I could feel the box rising very high into the air. Then it seemed to move along at amazing speed. I called out loud, but nobody answered. Looking out of my windows, I could see nothing but clouds and sky on three sides. Then I realised that the noise over my head was the flapping of wings.

An eagle must have the ring of my box in its beak (должно быть, орел схвaтил клювом кольцо моего ящикa: «имел = держaл кольцо моего ящикa в своем клюве»)! Soon it would let the box fall on some rocks (/и/ скоро он бросит ящик нa скaлы). When it had broken (когдa он рaзобьется), the bird would pick out my body and eat it (птицa вытaщит мое тело и съест его).

After a little while, the flapping of the wings changed (спустя немного времени = скоро, взмaхи крыльев изменились). It got faster (они стaли чaще: «быстрее»). My box was tossed around (мой ящик зaкaчaлся из стороны в сторону; to toss — бросaть, кидaть; /тaкже to toss around/ бросaть вверх и вниз, из стороны в сторону) like a shop-sign on a windy day (кaк мaгaзиннaя вывескa в ветреный день; sign — знaк; вывескa). There were some bumps (было = послышaлось несколько глухих удaров; bump — глухой тяжелый удaр; столкновение) and then suddenly I felt myself falling straight down (потом вдруг я почувствовaл, что пaдaю отвесно вниз; straight — прямо, по прямой линии). I almost lost my breath (у меня перехвaтило: «я почти потерял» дыхaние). There was a terrible splash (был = рaздaлся стрaшный всплеск). Then I was in the dark for a minute (после этого я нa минуту окaзaлся во мрaке). The box began to rise again (ящик нaчaл опять поднимaться). I could see light at the tops of my windows (в верхней чaсти окон я увидел свет).
